The Pan African University (PAU) is a continental academic andresearch institution created by the African Union, that is based on thefollowing guiding principles: academic freedom, autonomy, accountability,quality assurance, strengthening existing African institutions at the graduateand post-graduate levels to enable them to serve the whole continent, excellenceand international partnerships in academic and research activities, genderparity and equality at all levels and in all university functions. The PAU alsoaims at the promotion of African integration through the mobility of students,academic and administrative staff, collaborative research linked to thechallenges faced by African countries, the institution of an appropriate framework toenable the African Diaspora to contribute towards the development of highereducation and research in Africa, promotion of inter-disciplinary andmultidisciplinary research programmes linked to policy making processes,promotion of productive linkages with the industrial sector for innovation anddissemination of new knowledge, full use of Information and CommunicationTechnologies for pedagogy, research and management. 2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Objectives
This is asenior position within the Pan African University’s Management structure.Reporting to the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, the holder ofthis position will serve as the Senior Academic and Student Affairs Officer withresponsibility for oversight of all academic and student services and programs.
She/he shall specificallybe in charge of the following:
- Plan, develop, and organize, the development of academic programs, policies, procedures and guidelines
- Plan the evaluation and review of academic programs and curriculum development
- Work with national, regional, continental and international accreditation and quality assurance agencies
- Plan together with Directors of institutes the evaluation processes for faculty hiring, promotion, and tenure, and make recommendations
- Manage and administer the PAU scholarship scheme
- Develop and maintain overall academic records for PAU Institutes
- Coordinate the issuance of academic transcripts and certificates
- Participate in budget preparation for academic and academic-related programs.
- Participate in the planning and development of policies, programs, services and procedures that are responsive to the dynamic and diverse needs of the student community including guidance and counseling, residential life and housing, sports and recreation, health services, student organization
- Plan, and coordinate together with institute-based line managers and the student leadership, in developing communication procedures and channels between students, management, faculty and general public
- Plan, and coordinate together with institute-based line managers and the student leadership, in identifying and engaging relevant external student services providers
- Review, investigate, and analyze allegations of violation of the Student Code of Conduct, and present the case as appropriate
- Participate in budget preparation for student affairs-related programs.
- Perform other related tasks and related responsibilities as assigned by the Vice Rector
3. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
A Masters University Degree or Higherin one of the thematic field of PAU.
4. WORKEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Candidates must have at least 7 years progressiveexperience in senior academic positions at a modern university environment
Three(3) years of appropriate experience at a Senior lecturer level and above with astrong credentials in management of academic affairs
5. OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS
i. Experiencein areas of teaching and learning, innovative programme design, academicdevelopment and support, and digital scholarly resources
ii. Knowledgeof national, regional and international accreditation and quality assurancestandards and processes
iii. Experienceof the higher education environment in Africa.
iv. Demonstratedteam leadership skills in change and transition management;
v. Managementexperience, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to organize and motivateothers and to work in a multi-cultural environment from diverse constituencies;
vi. Excellentreport writing and presentation skills;
vii. Demonstratedability to communicate and negotiate effectively and build collaborativerelationships;
viii. Excellentanalytical and problem solving skills

6. Language Requirement:
Proficiency in one of the African Union workinglanguages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be anadded advantage.
7. Age Requirement:
Candidates must preferably be between 30 and 45years old.
8. Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three(3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationaryperiod. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable,subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

Remuneration::Indicative basicsalary of US$ 35,300.00per annum plus other related entitlements e.g.Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 16,819.20 perineum),education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses forevery eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum),etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
