Gender Program Officer @ Pathfinder International/Ethiopia

Pathfinder International/Ethiopia (PI/E) is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to provide high quality reproductive health and family planning services that improve the lives of women and their families in Ethiopia.
For its Integrated Family Health Program jointly implemented with JSI Inc. PI/E has the following open post in the Country Office.
Job Title: Gender Program Officer
Reports To: Senior Gender Advisor
Duty Station: Addis Ababa
Duration of Employment Contract: Six Months With Possibility Of Extension
REQUIREMENTS:
• Masters/Bachelors Degree in Social Science, Gender Studies, Education or related fields.
• Must have minimum of five years of experience in Reproductive Health and Gender activities. Experience in practical fieldwork and experience in NGO will be an advantage.
• Must have strong facilitation skills for gender related trainings
• Must have strong writing and communication skills both in Amharic and English. Knowledge of local languages will be an added advantage.
• Skills and experience in computer applications and utilization is mandatory.
• Must be able to work with minimum supervision and have strong interpersonal skills and skills to promote teamwork.
• Must demonstrate strong interest and commitment to gender equity actions and abandonment of HTP that affect the health and wellbeing of women and girls.
• Must have demonstrable personal integrity and honesty and must have pleasant personality.
• Must be willing to travel frequently to project activity regions and Woredas as per need.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the guidance and close supervision of the Senior Gender Advisor of IFHP, the Gender Program Officer is responsible for implementation of the gender mainstreaming program strategies of IFHP. S/he is responsible to assist the Senior Gender Advisor on the integration of gender and HTP issues in all IFHP programmatic intervention across all thematic areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists the Regional Program Offices staff in the development of annual plans and budgets that will lead to appropriate implementation of Gender mainstreaming in the IFHP program interventions.
• Builds the capacities of federal, regional, zonal health Bureau’s, Women, Children and Youth Affair Offices including HEWS and Supervisors to integrate and mainstream gender concerns into their programmatic interventions through training and other technical support.
• Provide technical assistance to train and support, women ,men and youth groups to work as peer promoters against gender biases, in the elimination of harmful traditional practices affecting women’s reproductive health and rights and maternal and child health such as FGM, early marriage etc.
• Provide technical assistance to Regional Program Offices and IPOs to support rural women and girls access education opportunities, RH information and services.
• Provide technical assistance on male engagement in addressing Gender and HTP issues at all level in the IFHP program interventions.
• Provide technical assistance in reviewing reports and proposal that are coming from Regional Offices and make sure the planned activities are accomplished, and provides the necessary feedback.
• Provide technical assistance in the development and distribution of gender mainstreaming toolkits, guidelines, and IEC/BCC materials.
• Work with community and religious leaders to promote safe motherhood, the empowerment of women and girls and to stop harmful traditional practices and gender based violence.
• Provide technical assistance to IFHP regional offices in organizing gender related trainings, sensitization or orientation session.
• Strengthen the IFHP Program network and partnership in the re9ion and attends relevant government and partner’s meetings to further develop collaboration and to obtain new and improved Gender responsive health service delivery approaches, methods and ideas.
• Travels to focus regions, zones and woredas to provide technical support to Government sectors (MOH, Ministry of Women and Children affairs)and Implementing Partners.
• Carries out operational research and gathers important and new developments and best practices in the areas of Gender and HTP and continue to improve program performance and share innovative methods.
• Undertakes other tasks assigned by his /her supervisor.
SALARY: As per salary scale of the organization.
