World Food Programme
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against global hunger and the world’s largest humanitarian Organization. WFP uses food assistance to promote food security, which implies access of all people at all times to the food needed for an active and healthy life. WFP works n 73 countries worldwide to achieve its strategic objectives of saving lives and protecting livelihoods in emergencies, preventing acute hunger and investing in disaster preparedness and mitigation measures, restoring and rebuilding livelihoods after emergencies, reducing chronic hunger and under nutrition as well as strengthening the capacity of countries to reduce hunger. In Ethiopia, WFP works to support Government programmes addressing hunger by using direct food assistance where it adds value and develop the Government’s capacity to implement hunger solutions. WFP Ethiopia oversees one of the biggest WFP operations worldwide currently targeting about 6.5 million people through its Protracted Relief and Recovery Operations and Country Programme. NFP has a total of about 710 staff at its Country Office in Addis Ababa and in 12 Sub/Field Offices.

Finance Assistant (1 post)

Level: G5
The Finance Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: Extract and input data from various sources in financial br accounting systems; Respond to accounting, budget or financial queries regarding data from staff in the unit and elsewhere in the Programme; Prepare bank reconciliations and conduct analysis of general ledger accounts; Assist in the preparation of the payroll by executing validity checks on monthly payroll results; Maintain proper control over various financial records such as commitments and expenditures against budgeted amounts; initiate actions related to the following: general financial information, and travel payments, and procurement transaction verify vendor claims for accuracy and conformance with WFP finance rules and regulations; perform claim verifications against documentation to ensure that purchases/services are properly authorized and that the goods have been received or services rendered; and ensure timely recording and processing of vendor invoices in the Programme’s information system; Monitor vendor advances and other receivables and ensure timely clearance of vendor outstanding items, taking corrective follow up actions where required; Prepare necessary receipt and journal vouchers; Draft routine correspondence related to the unit’s work and type a variety of material such as correspondence, reports and papers; Provide information related to financial transactions including calculation of personal entitlements and pro rata; Assist in the preparation of budget, accounting, financial reports, statistical reports and other reports as required; Provide assistance to all staff services such as travel, expense claims, document retrieval, etc; Supervising Drivers in the SO; Perform other related duties as assigned.

Critical Success Factors:
Sound judgment; ability to extract, interpret, analyst and format data and to resolve operational problems. Ability to work with minimum of supervision; to supervise and train support staff; and to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. Ability to work with accuracy under time constraints and pressure; to deal patiently and tactfully with staff members and others and to have a high sense of confidentiality, initiative and good judgment

Education:
Secondary school education, including or supplemented by course(s) related to the area of work.
Experience: -
At least five years of progressively responsible work experience, including at least three years in the field of finance, accounting, budget, audit or other related field.
Knowledge:
Experience in utilizing computers, including word processing, spreadsheet and other WFP standard software packages and systems. General knowledge of UN system financial policies, rules, regulations and procedures. Specialized knowledge of WFP financial and administrative rules and regulations and policies and practices in the specific area of work,
Language:
Fluency in both Oral and written communication in English and Amharic.
Knowledge of local language is added advantage.
