Building Engineer - International Relief and Development


Job Description

The Ethiopia Health Infrastructure Program (EHIP) is a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded program being implemented by International Relief and Development (IRD). IRD’s scope of work includes the construction, renovation, and refurbishment of health throughout Ethiopia.
 
The Building Engineer will be directly responsible for managing all construction activities at the project site
 
Essential Job Functions:
  • Responsible for daily site management and oversight of subcontractor(s) and other site personnel and ensuring all contract specifications are met within budget and according to the approved schedule.
  • Responsible for managing and implementing IRD’s quality control, site safety, and environmental compliance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all resources of the sub contractor (Cash flow, Labor, Material and Equipment) have been deployed according to the schedule.
  • Ensure all required and set quality control processes (submittals of shop drawings, catalogs, laboratory tests, as built drawings etc) are conducted.
  • Produce all required weekly/monthly/closeout reports, site logs and report to the site engineer, maintain proper and detailed project files.
  • Attend and weekly meetings on site to review progress, resolve issues and problems
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Diploma and above in Civil Engineering, Building Construction with a minimum of experience of 5 years in building construction.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality control, site safety and progress control. Previous experience in internationally funded construction programs is preferable;
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English language is preferred.
  • Computer skills in MS Project, AutoCAD experience preferred.
 
Duty Station
  • Building Engineers will be residing on project sites
Reports to:     Team leader  
Duty station: Project sites of North Amhara and South Ethiopia Region
