Project Manager - ORBIS International-Ethiopia



ORBIS International-Ethiopia is seeking to recruit a qualified Project Manager for projects under capacity building program (emphasis on pediatric ophthalmology and training). The Project Manager reports to the Capacity building, Advocacy and Research Program Manager. The main functions consist of, but not limited to the following:
1. In consultation and cooperation with the Program Manager, and partners, develop and implement the project activities according to the plans.
2. Initiate the planning, designing, developing and process the approval of concept papers, project plans, project agreements, research projects, and quality standards.
3. Report to the Program Manager progress/status and implementation of ongoing projects, and give updates on the development of new projects.
4. Work closely with the Program Manager and partners to ensure ORBIS projects are based on accurate and up-to-date data and information on blindness prevalence and incidence in operational areas.
5. Work closely with the Program Manager and Monitoring and Evaluation teams to develop indicators, benchmarks and mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation of projects.
6. Effectively measures outcomes and impacts based on specific indicators and benchmarks.
7. Ensure that work plans are developed for projects in operational areas and follow up and monitor their timely implementation.
8. Lead the process of assigned Pediatric Ophthalmology, Eye care training, Research and institutional support project budget preparations and the monitoring of timely fund utilization.
9. Develop and maintain trust, mutual respect and understanding and good relationships between ORBIS and its partners by working in collaboration with all.
10. Participate in the development of a sustainable, preventive and curative eye care projects for the prevention and control of avoidable blindness in operational areas in line with ORBIS’ Program Strategies and as per ORBIS Strategic Plan.
11. Coordinate, supervise and provide technical support for the development of plans and budgets for Ped Ophthalmology, Eye care training, Research and Advocacy projects In the operation areas.
12. Monitor and facilitate financial availability to and utilization by projects, and provide technical support to project partners for the smooth and timely implementation of project activities.
13. Co work with all concerned bodies in networking, advocate for and collaborate with relevant sector agencies.
14. Co-work with all Program and other departments colleagues to compile and maintain comprehensive data on avoidable blindness and other programmatic research findings and public awareness and advocacy materials,
15. Co-work in the coordination of Flying Eye Hospital programs in Ethiopia.
16. Identify and document lessons learnt and good practices and facilitate exchange of experience among the various projects and partners in the operational areas.
17. Initiate, organize and participate in mid-term and final evaluations of assigned projects.
QUALIFICATION: Post graduate degree in Health related field
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• At least three years of demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, managing, and monitoring multi-partner health projects/programs.
• Demonstrated experience in health care delivery systems, planning and evaluation methodologies and statistical reporting,
• Experience in blindness prevention, and/or preventive ophthalmology is an advantage.
Skills
• Good command of written and spoken English.
• Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, & MS Outlook) and Internet savvy.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal & written) required.
• Able to interact and (manage) people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to foster an open trusting work environment.
• Ability to lead a team in continuous Quality Improvement (CQI)-based environment.
• Able to travel in the field and willing to work under pressing situations.
- Accepts accountability for works planned and promised and respect deadlines.
• Supports a customer-centered approach to programs, services, and systems.
• Good knowledge of analytical software like SPSS, STATA and Epilnfo is a plus
EMPLOYMENT: long-term on the basis of the project duration
SALARY: As per the Organization’s Scale
Duty Station: Addis Ababa with some field travels
