Since 2003, International Medical Corps Ethiopia has implemented extensive programming in food-insecure areas throughout Oromia, Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples Region (SNNPR) and Somali regional state, assisting both refugees and local communities to drive their own development by capacitating local health and food security structures through technical, material and logistical support. As one of the leading humanitarian organizations in Ethiopia, International Medical Corps provides accessible and appropriate health care and timely responses in the areas of primary health care, nutrition, reproductive health, maternal and child health, mental health, water, hygiene and sanitation, gender-based violence, livelihoods and disaster risk reduction, infant young children feeding and community-led total.
 
PROGRAM BACKGROUND
IMC is leading a consortium application on ‘Enhancing resilience to climate Change impacts through Community-Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CM-DRR)’ in Oromia region, Ethiopia. The envisaged project will target the most vulnerable and disadvantaged sections of the society in the proposed target woredas. The direct beneficiaries of the project will be vulnerable households and groups, whose livelihoods are threatened by drought, food shortages, climate variability, environmental degradation and other socio-economic factors.
The overall goal of the envisaged project is to enhance the resilience and capacity of the social, economic, and environmental systems to climate change through integrated DRR / Climate Change Adaptation interventions. To achieve the intended goal, the project improves community access to and analysis of weather/ climate information for community-based decision-making; improve community resilience to climate change and climate-related shocks and enhance capacity to Plan and Manage Integrated Disaster DRR Interventions. The intervention will build on context-specific coping strategies that would increase community resilience to climate variability, long-term climate change, and climate-related shocks.
International Medical Corps is recruiting for the following key positions as for an anticipated USAID funding.

JOB SUMMARY
The Learning and Knowledge Management officer will lead IR 1( improving access to Science and analysis for community-decision making) and work closely with the Chief of Party, Deputy COP, and NRM/ Climate Change Advisor. The Learning and Knowledge Officer will oversee the project internal monitoring systems including data collection, analysis and ensure that science and analysis components of the project are tracked and utilized in cooperation with the NRM and Climate Change Advisor. The Officer will be responsible for the production of best practices, lessons learnt, success stories and other documentation.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Ensure the active involvement of relevant partners including beneficiary community in the design, monitoring and evaluation of the intervention.
  • Build capacity of staff and partners through training and support for effective implementation of the  learning and knowledge systems including information gathering, follow up and post implementation monitoring
  • S/he will keep a schedule of assessments and surveys as well as other data collection efforts and requirements and will support program and partner staff in carrying out assessments and surveys, data analysis.
  • Actively engage  in mapping of complementary programs ( USAID and non-USAID funded)  in the intervention woredas and provide a platform for information sharing
  • Function as a point person  for the collaboration with the Knowledge ,Learning, Documentation  and Policy Project ( KLDPP)  of USAID funded programs


Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience Requirements:
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, Information Communication Technology (ICT) or related field is required or demonstrated equivalent work experience in the field
  • At least five (5) years work experience with for Government, profit organization, non-governmental organization (NGO) in the knowledge management, Monitoring and Evaluation or database management
  • Strong data analysis skills (qualitative and qualitative)
