Job Description

1. Position Title: Level C Workshop Assistant 
Job Summary 
Under the direct supervision of the Head of General Metal Fabrication and Assembly (GMFA) Department and the general guidance of College Dean and Education and Training Core-process Owner, the position holder is generally responsible for practical activities in GMFA workshop. S/he is particularly responsible for the upkeep of tools, equipment and materials, receiving and handling customer request and property, and procurement of training materials. S/he is also responsible for practical learning activities of college trainees and other trainees under cooperative training.
Minimum qualification and work experience 
The position holder is required to have college diploma (12+2 or 10+3) or completion of level C training in General Mechanics, General Metal Fabrication and Assembly, Mechanical Engineering, Welding and other related disciplines. S/he is required to have a minimum of five years work experience preferably in industries, renowned metal workshops or welding shop.
Specific duties and responsibilities 
 
  • Based on the plan of college, training objectives and individual plan, he/she organizes all the resources needed for effective implementation
  • Conduct both practical and theoretical training session
  • Good understanding of outcome-based and project-based training approach
  • Conduct assessment of competencies of trainees regularly
  • Report progress of trainees and assessment result of each unit of competencies and upon completion of each level
  • Prepares individual work plan and performance report
  • Participate in participatory planning at the college and department level
  • Participates in curriculum development and revision
  • Assign extra consultation hour for trainees
  • Participates in departmental team work and self-development programmes
  • Follow up and supervise trainees in industry/company training
  • Takes responsibility for safe use and handling of college property under his/her custody
  • Comply with college and organizational wide  rules, regulations, procedures and methods
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the college

Job Requirements

  • Good understanding of the science of engineering materials and metal technology
  • Thorough understanding of the TVET sector
  • Practical demonstration skill
  • Neatness and physical fitness for the profession
  • Good understanding of the current TVET system and the training methodology
  • Proven coordination skill and team work
  • Very good interpersonal communication skill with work colleagues, trainees, partner organizations and other stakeholders
  • Preferable to have certificate of occupational competency assessment in Welding, General Metal Fabrication and Assembly or willing to be assessed immediately after emlpoyment
 
Specific skills 
 
  • Welding skill (arc welding, gas welding, etc)
  • Sheet metal working skill
  • Strong Microsoft Office computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Intermediate English language skill and proficiency in Amharic
  • Knowledge or awareness of quality management or quality control
  • Report writing skill
  • Business/entrepreneurship skill
  • Knowledge of work place communication and ethics
