Accountant - ORBIS International-Ethiopia



ORBIS International-Ethiopia is seeking to recruit a qualified Accountant for its office in Addis Ababa. The Accountant reports to the Finance Manager. The main functions consist of, but not limited to the following:
• Assist in designing, modifying and updating financial working and reporting formats if the need arises;
• Assist in designing training/orientation materials for Implementing Partner personnel and ORBIS International Ethiopia field staff;
• Actively participate in presenting and or conducting training/orientation workshops for Implementing Partner personnel and ORBIS International Ethiopia field staff;
• Conduct subsequent coaching sessions and tutorials to Implementing Partner personnel and also, if deemed necessary, to ORBIS International Ethiopia field staff;
• Pay extensive field visits up to 75% of the time to Woreda (and Zones when appropriate) and monitor the progress of work from the aspect of ORBIS International Ethiopia project fund utilization and management systems;
• Initiate the bank transfer orders to the respective rural projects as per the need initiated from the field and/or Program Department and ensure timely transfers are made and that all concerned bodies are timely informed of the action;
• Travel to the field and take the lead in making payments for the field project activities as instructed by the supervisor;
• Follow up and coordinate the timely submission of financial reports and copies of supporting documents from to the expenditures made at field level for project activities implementation;
• Screen Woreda financial reports and conduct cross checking against copies of expenditure source documents;
• Certify authenticity of the Zone level financial reports, prepare related journal entries, and enter them into the accounting system (MIP) of ORBIS International Ethiopia whenever needed;
• Initiate subsequent bank transfer requests for each rural project after ensuring the pre-requisites are fulfilled; and notify all concerned bodies on time;
• Pay continual field visits to be engaged in direct disbursement activities and also to ascertain the consistent use of working and reporting financial formats by Woreda Implementing Pamers’ personnel
• Assist ORBIS International Ethiopia Finance Section if and when requested; and
• Assist in other aspects related to Woreda level rural project monitoring when appropriate.
• Handling all types of payments at field level;
• Organizing payment documents and partner reports in journal vouchers
QUALIFICATION: BA Degree in Accounting from a recognized University
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Minimum 3 years of demonstrated work experience in related field in an NGO working environment
• Experience in project coordination and field work is a plus
Skills
• Excellent knowhow of National and local finance related rules and regulations
• Excellent command of the English language both in writing and speaking
• Proficiency in computer use and accounting programs and (Window based Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and the Internet)
• Ability to travel extensively in the project areas, and
• Proactive and accepts accountability for work assigned and performed,
• Effective interpersonal skills with ability to interact and (manage) people of diverse cultural backgrounds.
EMPLOYMENT: Long term in line with the organization’s country program
SALARY: As per the Organization’s Scale
Duty Station: Addis Ababa (Head Office) with very extensive field works that require intensive field travels
