VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: CLINICAL PHARMACIST.
The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located at Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its human resourced by filling in all its vacant posts.
Thus the Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the post of a CLINICAL PHARMACIST at the Directorate of Medical Services.

1. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of The Director of Medical Services, the Clinical Pharmacist at the AU Medical Services will be responsible for the day to day pharmaceutical duties as follows:
i.                 Oversees, and allocates activities of employees engaged in dispensing prescribed medications, drugs and other pharmaceutical products for patient care, according to laid down procedures in professional a manner.
ii.                Maintains responsibility for the management of the inventory for essential drugs; orders and maintains stock levels at all times.
iii.              Initiate and fully involved in the procurement processes of pharmaceutical products in collaboration with the Procurement Division.
iv.              Provide consultative advise to physicians on the inherent dangers of drugs and their eventual side effects as well as occasionally agree with them on the prescription of correct doses.
v.               Participate in continuing medical education programs for Medical staff,


vi.          Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security
of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
vii.         Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring work
activities, such as preparation of records of expenditures, progress
reports, etc.
viii.        Furnishes pharmacy unit budget and reports for the Director of Medical Services.
ix.          Evaluate employee performance, and recommend disciplinary action. May instruct interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy.
x.           To perform any other duties as assigned by the Director.
  2.      EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
x Must have a Master Degree in Pharmacy
x Deep knowledge on pharmacokinetics of drugs and therapies is essential. x Skills in working with technical automated equipment and information systems have an added advantage.
x At least 8 years of service as a registered clinical pharmacist of which 3 years should be at managerial level;
x Relevant work experience within a government hospital, private practice, university teaching hospital or international organization as unit, team, section, or department head.
  3.      OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS:
x Must be computer literate;
x Management experience, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to organize and motivate others, and to work in a multi-cultural environment; x Excellent drafting and reporting skills;
  4.      Language Requirement:
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Knowledge of one or several other working languages would be an added advantage.
  5.      Age Requirement:
Candidates must preferably be between 35 and 45 years old.


  6.     Tenure of Appointment:
The appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of with the first twelve months will be considered as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.
Candidates from the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply: Eretria, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic, SaoTome and Principe, Seychelles and Somalia.

8.Remuneration::Indicative basic salary of US$ 35,300.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 14,414.40perineum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
