Publication and Communications Officer = MSH

Overall Responsibilities
The IEC/BCC and Communications Officer supports the senior management team, serving as a key lead person in developing IEC/BCC materials, review literatures for papers to published in peer review medical journals, assist in the write up of reports and prepare communication/information requests of the project.  The position holder has key responsibility for assisting the HeaL TB team in preparing articles for peer reviewed journals publication, overseeing the collection of information and developing communication products that highlight project activities and results, which will involve consistent field travel to project locales.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Support the project’s operations research; including the documentation of results, review references, and edit articles for peer reviewed medical journals.
    • Serve as a point person for information requests concerning the project
    • Liaise with MSH headquarters communications and research team
    • Liaise with MSH and USAID (especially their communications offices), GOE counterparts and key stakeholders on communication matters.
    • Together with the other HeaL TB teams, responsible for collecting information and developing IEC/BCC and communication products documenting program activities and results:
      • Travel to field to collect information for writing on program activities
      • Take and compile photos of program activities
      • Lead the development of success stories
      • Provide information updates to the weekly One MSH
      • Lead the trainings and implementation of BCC
    • Support the technical staff in report writing and editing
    • Publication of regular newsletter and technical updates
    • Perform other duties appropriate to the position as assigned by the senior management team
Qualifications
  1. Masters of Public Health, or masters degree in Health Education or other relevant area, or equivalent relevant experience
  2. Demonstrated ability in such key communications areas as IEC/BCC, and story writing
  3. Experience in searching reference materials in international web based medical libraries
  4. Three or more years of experience in the field of IEC/BCC, researches and related areas
  5. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully in a team environment
  6. Excellent English language fluency in written and spoken at a level of a mother tongue. 
  7. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, and attention to detail
  8. Previous USAID experience strongly preferred
  9. Fluency in Amharic and other local languages desirable but not a must
  10. Experience in publication in peer reviewed medical journals
  11. Ability to travel to the regions as required
