Vacancies for hourly paid teachers and trainers
British Council Ethiopia is seeking to create a pool of hourly paid teachers interested in working with our growing English language teaching and training programmes. These programmes include
• teaching General English to groups of adult learners,
• teaching exam preparation classes to groups of adult learners,
• training for our professional development programmes in areas such as presentation skills, report-writing and negotiating.
Hours vary from 2 to 20 hours per week, depending on demand. A generous hourly fee is offered.
Specialised training will be provided for successful candidates.
Requirements;
Essential:
• Recognised training qualification
OR
• Recognised teaching qualification e.g. Certificate in TEFL, PGCE (post- compulsory), Degree in Education
• Must not be currently committed to a British Council partnership project, meaning that recruitment would detract from project performance
• Demonstrated high quality of teaching ability
• Strong customer care skills and awareness of students’ needs
• Flexibility and reliability
• Ability to work in a team
• Willingness to engage in British Council provided training and professional development for teachers
• English language level: IELTS 8 or above or equivalent
Desirable:
• At least three years’ teaching experience including at least two years’ experience teaching adults
• Previous experience of working with an international teaching organisation
• Previous experience of delivering professional development/ ‘soft skills’ courses or in other relevant areas
• Previous experience of delivering courses to professionals e.g. government or NGO staff
• Familiarity with IELTS and / or previous experience of delivering exam preparation classes
