Intern- HR Assistant - The Danish Refugee Council (DRC)


Position Description
 
Title:  Intern- HR Assistant
Location:  Addis Ababa
Duration:  Two Months
 
Background
 
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC has mainly focused on Somalis who are displaced by conflict. The regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya and we have other offices and operations in Somalia, Puntland, Somaliland, Kenya and Yemen. We have newly opened our offices and operation in Ethiopia.
 
In Ethiopia, DRC, has signed an MOU with UNHCR and The Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs (ARRA) to support Refugees and host communities in Ethiopia. A programme is being established in the Somali region and Gambella Region of Ethiopia, promoting an initiative around the Development Assistance for Refugees framework, (DAR),  in Refugee Affected Areas this includes addressing issues in the hosting area around the refugee camps as well as addressing durable solutions for the refugee population.
 
Purpose
 
The Intern HR Assistant is expected to get practical experience and provide support to the HR Unit in the following activities: -
 
Key Responsibilities:
   
Personnel Administration
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of DRC HR policies and ensure employee adherence.
  • Ensure personnel files are complete and accurate assuring adherence to highest level of confidentiality.
  • Maintain updated job description database.
  • Oversee leave management, maintain leave tracking ensuring complete documentation for all staff movement.
  • Prepare and submit monthly staff list.
Recruitment:
  • Assist in the recruitment processes ensuring compliance to hiring procedures as outlined in the Administration manual.
  • Maintain tracking system of the recruitment process and compile monthly report on recruitment.
  • Conduct timely orientation of new staff.
  • Process monthly payroll on timely basis ensuring complete and accurate documentation.
  • Process statutory payments and ensure monthly and annual returns are submitted on timely basis.
  • Timely enrolment of staff into insurance benefits package, assuring the staff list is current at all times.

Job Requirements

Personal Specifications
 
Essential:
  • Relevant qualifications in Human Resources or Business Administration.
  • Zero years of Experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain working relationships across the organisation.
  • Excellent knowledge of legal employment obligations in line with national labour law.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience working with databases.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English
