Communication Officer (ICRC Delegation to the AU) - ICRC


The International Committee of the Red Cross's Delegation to the African Union is looking for a qualified candidate to fill up the following vacant position.

COMMUNICATION OFFICER
Main Tasks
  • Contributes to internal reporting and writing of weekly AU Highlights
  • Summarizes AU Communiqués, Press releases, decisions as well as agreements
  • Attends briefings and sessions at international organizations/actors for Journalists and report on thematic interest for ICRC
  • Produces the delegation's information materials, ad hoc press releases and communication lines
  • Writes inputs for the ICRC global media  system 
  • Arranges interviews with media for the Head of Delegation
  • Participates in both external and internal meetings and prepares reporting and follow up
  • Prepares background documents, drafts minutes of meeting and ensures follow up of meetings
  • Coordinates the organization of a biennial seminar for diplomats
  • Ensures regular transmission of information and follow up of multilateral and humanitarian diplomacy issues with Focal Points of ICRC delegations in Africa; Assists in the preparation of the yearly Focal Points networking meeting
  • Provides proactive analysis as to the relevance of the AU delegation's public communication efforts
  • Contributes to the general analysis and anticipation of future key multilateral and humanitarian diplomacy issues by identifying trends and possible consequences in the public debate within the African Union
  • Assists inorganizing mobilization campaigns with the AU or general public on themes of interest to the ICRC.  …)
  • Briefs interlocutors and colleagues on the ICRC Delegation to the AU activities in Addis Ababa
  • Contributes to maintain regular contacts with interlocutors (AU Commission, MemberStatesand IOs)
  • Supports in translating given  documents from English to French  language and vice-versa, including interpreting in different situation with confidentiality and accuracy
Educational Background & Work Experience
  • University Degree inCommunications, journalism, or related area in social sciences or humanities field
  • 3-4 years relevant and proven work experience in a multilateral/humanitarian diplomacy environment.
  • Good computer and administrative skills
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and French languages; Knowledge of other national languages an asset
  • Driving licence 3rd grade

Base Station: Addis Ababa
Salary : As per the scale of the organization
